Bank Julius Baer Festive Pack: A Celebration of Chinese Culture

A Unique Collection Inspired by Imperial Porcelain

Imperial Porcelain draws its inspiration deeply from rich Chinese history and culture; namely, the imperial family’s practices of collecting porcelain as fine art, to give it a unique and elevated status that matched the client’s profile. The items are adorned with lotus flowers and peaches motifs found commonly on porcelain, and represented purity and longevity respectively, and made it aptly an auspicious gift for the festive season.

Bank Julius Baer has unveiled its latest design collaboration with renowned designer Chuan Yeo - the Bank Julius Baer Festive Pack. This collection, aptly named Imperial Porcelain, pays homage to the imperial family tradition of collecting porcelain as art. The design team, led by Chuan Yeo, sought to create a series of Chinese New Year collectible items that not only reflected the bank's deep appreciation for Chinese culture but also showcased their commitment to sustainability.

The Imperial Porcelain collection consists of a pouch, paper carrier bag, red packets, and a carrier box. Each item is adorned with motifs commonly found on porcelain, such as lotus flowers and peaches, symbolizing purity and longevity respectively. These motifs not only add a touch of elegance to the design but also make the collection an auspicious gift for the festive season.

What sets the Imperial Porcelain collection apart is its commitment to sustainability. The red packets, carrier box, and carrier bag are all made from eco-friendly paper, while the pouch is made from eco-friendly leather. This aligns with the emerging trend of eco-friendly practices worldwide and showcases Bank Julius Baer's dedication to environmental responsibility.

To achieve the glossy effect commonly found on actual porcelain, the design team utilized UV spot treatment. This technique not only adds a luxurious touch to the collection but also creates a thematic series of items that mirror the look and feel of porcelain. The result is a visually stunning collection that captures the essence of Chinese culture and heritage.

The Imperial Porcelain collection measures 250mm x 30mm x 150mm, making it the perfect size for gifting during the festive season. Its compact yet elegant design ensures that it can be easily carried and displayed, adding a touch of sophistication to any celebration.

Chuan Yeo, the creative director behind the Imperial Porcelain collection, shared the challenges faced during the design process. "We had to conceptualize a design that was as creative as possible while keeping to a limit of two base colors - festive red and gold," said Yeo. "We also had to avoid using zodiac animal representations while still creating a design that was perceived as auspicious. Additionally, we had to source sustainable and eco-friendly materials within a specified budget."

Despite these challenges, the design team's in-depth research on Chinese history and culture allowed them to create a distinctive design that met the bank's requirements. The Imperial Porcelain collection not only showcases Bank Julius Baer's deep respect for Chinese culture but also highlights their appreciation for the thoughts behind its practices and way of life in traditional China.

The Bank Julius Baer Festive Pack - Imperial Porcelain collection is a true celebration of Chinese culture and heritage. Its unique design, commitment to sustainability, and attention to detail make it a standout gift for the festive season. Whether given as a token of appreciation or used as a fashionable accessory, this collection is sure to impress and delight.
